#417 - make host identifier configurable within Fleet <thread>
Osquery now exposes more information during host enrollment than Fleet previously handled.
^ which osquery version introduced this? What is the fleet behavior if I have old osquery versions connecting?
Also, reading the new docs, I think this is the case but want to check my understanding: • if I set
osquery_host_identifier
to
instance
in fleet, even if osquery's flags specify
hostname
as the identifier, fleet will use a unique per-instance tag as the identifier?

I'm not sure exactly but I think it's been quite some time.

Fleet uses the identifier osquery provided
if I set osquery_host_identifier to instance in fleet, even if osquery's flags specify hostname as the identifier, fleet will use a unique per-instance tag as the identifier?
yes

Ah I was responding in the wrong thread, chased down the commit that introduced this json sending: https://github.com/osquery/osquery/pull/3675 So I think this was in
2.8.0+
